on my own

If it wasn’t for you,
My feet would never touch the floor.

Wrapped in sheets and lost in dreams,
Isolated and desolate.

Unaware of the battle and ignorant by fault,
Haunted and hunted.

Wandering without light and building in the sand,
Broken and defeated.

Hear this thankful heart.

still here

Don’t leave me until you’ve done what you promised.

Opened my eyes and reclaimed ground.

I won’t leave.
I can’t leave.

My back is broken.
I’m wrestled to the ground.

No choice but to keep waiting.

not my own

Slowly, slowly
Breaking down.

Sleep unslept.
Work unworked.
Life unlived.

Wasting words and purpose in the waiting.
Waiting for what can’t be given.

now is the time

Time to come clean
Out of hiding
Out of the dark

Time to be a man
To acknowledge
To take on

Time to speak truth
Giving life
Giving forgiveness

Time to be love
Taking care of each other
Taking hand in hand

Time to rise up
For the young
For the dreamer

every day

Don’t look.
I’m failing.
Not hitting my marks and missing my queues.

Frantic after scribbled pages flying quick and crinkled in the wind.
Limp from keeping pace with the advanced and practiced.
Bruised and stumbling in the bit of light leading the way.

One thing after another,
Falling like a domino,
Until I stand empty handed.

Nothing of my own work to stand with me.

Free again to start new.
